About This Spot

Stepping into Terry Black's Barbecue in Waco feels like entering a warmly welcoming neighborhood gathering spot, where the air carries the rich, smoky aroma of wood-fired meats and the hum of good company buzzes quietly in the background. This is a place where time slows just enough to savor the ritual of barbecue, seen not only in the tender textures and complex flavors but also in the steady, unhurried rhythm of the pitmaster tending the smokers outside.

The atmosphere blends a sense of genuine Texan hospitality with a subtle energy, welcoming both visitors eager for a local culinary adventure and regulars who cherish this as a communal meeting point. Around you, the scent of smoked brisket mingles with the warmth of freshly baked cornbread and the earthy bite of jalapeño cheddar sausage, gently stirring the senses and inviting you to linger a little longer. The casual yet thoughtful voice of the staff guides your choices with ease, making it feel less like ordering and more like sharing a meal with friends who understand the craft.

Here, barbecue is less about rush and more about presence—whether that’s the soft crackle from the smoker, the savory depth of perfectly cooked ribs that almost fall apart, or the creamy comfort of sides like mac and cheese and green beans that echo the homey tradition of Southern cooking. Even the outdoor seating carries the subtle magic of an evening spent under an open sky, with sunset hues warming the experience and the cool breeze carrying whispers of conversations and laughter.

Terry Black’s Barbecue is not simply a restaurant; it’s a place to connect with the city’s flavor and heart. It leaves you with a conviction that the best meals happen when attentive care meets soulful craft, creating moments that are as memorable as the meal itself.

Delicious and one of the best BBQ experiences I have ever had. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was Smokey and moist. The ribs were perfectly cooked to tug and take right off the bone. The vibe and service were welcoming and now I can’t wait to go back. BTW don’t miss the banana pudding either.

Amazing! Amazing people! Amazing food! amazing service! Oscar visited with us and we enjoyed his conversation and exceptional service. Recommended by our son and several friends visiting earlier this fall. No way there is better barbecue in all of Texas! Smoked brisket, turkey breast, and jalapeño cheddar sausage and all the sides ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐. Must go when in Waco!

What an amazing way to spend our evening in Waco, Texas! The real, smoked barbecue was everything we hoped for and more. We sat outside and enjoyed a cool breeze, a pretty sunset, and the mouthwatering aroma of smoked meats. Watching the pitmaster load the smokers with wood and carefully tend to the meats was such a cool touch. The staff was incredibly attentive, the prices were great, and the food? Absolutely delicious. Everything was well-seasoned and full of flavor. The brisket, burnt ends, original sausage and beef rib, loaded potato salad and coleslaw were both fresh and tasty, the mac and cheese was creamy with great depth, and the creamed corn was rich and comforting. The chocolate pudding was the perfect sweet ending. And let’s talk about those homemade barbecue sauces—the spicy one was my favorite! I mixed a little of the sweet sauce on top, and it was perfection. Me and my family enjoyed every single bite. We’ll definitely be back, and I can’t wait to bring friends and family next time. Highly rated—thank you for such a wonderful experience. Keep up the amazing work!

Terry Black’s in Waco absolutely lives up to the hype. We ordered pretty much the full lineup — brisket, pork ribs, beef ribs, sausage, and one of each side — and everything was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The service made the experience even better; we were welcomed right at the door and guided through the ordering process like VIPs. The atmosphere leans touristy but in an upscale, polished way — a great mix of BBQ joint meets destination spot. Pricing felt fair for the quality, but a friendly warning: it’s very easy to over-order when everything looks that good (ask me how I know). Parking fills up quickly, so go early if you can. Plenty of seating inside or in the covered outdoor area. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for BBQ lovers, travelers, families, or anyone who appreciates smoked meat done right.

Terry Black’s BBQ is located in five Texas cities; Dallas, Austin, Lockhart, Fort Worth, and Waco. We visited the Waco restaurant. The brisket and sausage were very good, and so were the sides. I’ve been to my share of BBQ restaurants but have never seen so many smokers. The restaurant is casual. You stand in line, order your sides and grab a drink, then order your meat. I was surprised to see a Sam Adam’s beer, much less a non-alcoholic beer. Terry Black’s is a really good spot for some really good Texas BBQ. My only complaint is the price. The smallest side was $5. Brisket was $35/pound. Pretty steep. But if you are a BBQ aficionado, I highly recommend Terry Black’s.

Amazing true Texas BBQ. Super friendly staff, to die for food. Brisket is pricey ($34/lb), but the best around. Awesome merch too (shirts, hats, aprons, etc). Ate here two nights in a row.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ First time at Terry Black’s BBQ in Waco and it did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the mesquite wood aroma set the tone, and Oscar’s warm hospitality at the door made us feel right at home. I really appreciated that the menu clearly identified gluten-free options — such a thoughtful detail for diners with dietary needs. We decided to splurge on the rib and wow … absolutely worth it! Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. A fantastic first stop after dropping our son at Baylor — we’ll definitely be back!
